This Linux distribution derived from Mandrake Linux created by MandrakeSoft, but MandrakeSoft lost Hearst Corporation in rights to use the name "Mandrake." MandrakeSoft then buy Connectiva, and the result of this mixing is called Mandriva.
6. Sabayon
a distribution made in Trentino, Italy and named after the name of an Italian dessert called Sabayon. Sabayon is made from egg yolk, sugar and sweet alcohol.
7. Debian
first introduced in 1998. Ian Murdock of Debian name itself is taken from the name of his girlfriend (now wife) Debra and his name is Ian.
8. Damn Small Linux
a Linux distro with a size of only 50MB, as the name suggests.
9. MEPIS
According to the MEPIS creator Warren Woodford, MEPIS does not mean anything, he was just one heard her speaking through Skype connection was bad, and love this name.
10. FreeBSD

quite confusing. When you visit their site, their tagline reads "ever tried zen computing ?," so part of Zen is clear. But the "walk" with the logo Dolphins - Dolphins? Dolphins - Dolphins can not even walk. I wrote an email to JP Guillemin, the creator of such distributions to ask for an explanation. The answer: "Hi, Zenwalk used to sound much like NeXTSTEP, famous Os created when Steve Jobs was fired by Apple."
